It is a fact that physical activity offers a lot of benefits to its participants. This is why it is an essential part of every school program. It needs to be designed in a way where it is able to successfully achieve its specific objectives. Below are some of the reasons why it is a necessary part of education.

Improved physical fitness

A good physical education program ensures muscular strength and flexibility. It is also an effective means to an improved muscular endurance as well as body composition, while also having a positive effect on cardiovascular endurance. With high school students becoming even more conscious of their form and physique, this is a good means to encourage them to stay fit and healthy while in school.

Minimise the risks of heart disease

Coronary heart disease is a real danger that is staring at the public in the face these days. With more and more people living sedentary lives, it is not really surprising to see an increase in the level of obesity not just in adults but in teenagers as well. Inactivity is only going to increase the risk of the condition, which is why it is best to encourage physical activity in schools.

Weight regulation

Teens are often at risk of becoming overweight or worse, obese. In today’s culture of fast foods, most teens find it easy to gorge themselves with unhealthy food choices. It is quite alarming how the obesity rate in the country has increased over the years and the best way to prevent this is to encourage students to take part in activities that require them to perform some form of physical exertion. Sports and other physical activities are most effective at burning calories. It is also effective in toning the body as well as improve its overall composition.

It promotes health

Incorporating ample time for physical activity in schools is effective at preventing the onset of certain diseases. It also helps in postponing the debilitating effects of aging. At the same time, it is most helpful at developing stronger bones. This is most useful for growing teens since regular immersion in physical activities help in increasing the bone density in the body which helps create a sturdy skeleton.

Improved self-discipline and judgment

Encouraging physical education and sports activities in schools can be influential in the moral development of students. They will be given the opportunity to not only assume leadership but to also be able to work and cooperate with others. This also means that kids are able to learn how to accept responsibility for their behaviours. A well-established program encourages kids to follow established procedures and rules and to make sure that they will be responsible for their fitness and health.

Skill development

Sports and physical activities can help develop skills that will allow a rewarding and enjoyable participation. It is also useful in encouraging students to learn something new and become better at it, and it allows students to set goals and to find ways on how to achieve them.
